Sitting within the Bowdon Conservation Area, the extension replaces a dilapidated conservatory with a new garden dining room - simple in form, precise in detail, and designed to make the most of the beautiful mature garden.
The brief was straightforward - a modern room that connected the house to the garden. The solution is a space that blurs the boundary between inside and out. With three fully openable sides, the space can be opened up completely in the warmer months, and when closed, it retains the strong connection to the garden.
The design is restrained and deliberate. A minimal material palette - anchored by high-spec Dekton cladding to the exterior - provides a confident contemporary contrast to the original Mock-Edwardian brickwork. Every detail was carefully considered, and the precision of the built form settles it into the landscape and ties in to the original property - contrasting in form and materiality while forming a seamless connection from house to garden.
The result is a space the clients have made their own - a garden room that has transformed how they use and enjoy both home and garden.
